This piece has been hanging around my apartment for the last couple of months in various stages and I haven’t been sure what it should say. Most times I have some sort of an idea of what a painting will be, but with this one nothing was working. Then a couple of days ago I learned that some friends of mine has suffered a great loss. That night, as I was falling asleep, a voice in my heart spoke:
“I carry you with Me. I will carry you always.”
Immediately I knew that was what needed to go on this piece. When my lack of experience and words of condolence fail, God’s love is all I can offer. If you are hurting, I believe that He will carry you. Always.
“Lovely” is 12×12″ on gallery canvas. You can see it in person at the Tuscan Cafe in South Lyon. There will be an opening night reception this Friday, Dec. 14th from 6:30-8:30. I will be there 7:00-8:30, stop by and say hi! :)
I painted this a couple of months ago, but didn’t know what text to put on it. I finally came up with something though! I feel like joy is definitely a choice. You can look at situations and either cry or laugh. Choosing joy may not be the easiest, but it’s the best choice in the long run.
I just finished this painting today and I really love how it turned out! I can’t quite capture it correctly with my camera, but there are parts that are all black, parts that have blue over black, blue mixed with black, and blue over white… I love how layering and mixing colors give different effects! The more I paint, the more I realize how important it is to see art in person. You just can’t get all the nuances of color and texture with a photo on the internet.
If you are in the Blacksburg, Virginia area on October 2nd you should come out to Dwelling Place and see my work! The show starts at 6:30 pm and there will be some light refreshments provided. It’s a great chance to see my paintings in person, ask me any questions you might have, and maybe purchase an original painting for yourself or someone you love (aka: early Christmas shopping!). There will be some special one-night-only deals as well. Hope to see you there!
I wanted to let you know about an event that I will be at this weekend: Art Walk!
The Fenton Artwalk will run 10am – 6pm on Saturday, July 14th. Merchants in downtown Fenton, MI will host artists at their locations. I will be showing my work at A Joyful Noise, located at 111 West Shiawassee.
Here’s one of the paintings that I will be showing:
I’m super excited for this event! I will be selling original pieces as well as prints and other goodies. Original works are priced anywhere from $20-$350, so there’s something for everyone! Please stop by and say “hi” – I’d love to meet you!
