I Carry You With Me

1114b-2

This piece has been hanging around my apartment for the last couple of months in various stages and I haven’t been sure what it should say. Most times I have some sort of an idea of what a painting will be, but with this one nothing was working. Then a couple of days ago I learned that some friends of mine has suffered a great loss. That night, as I was falling asleep, a voice in my heart spoke:

“I carry you with Me. I will carry you always.”

Immediately I knew that was what needed to go on this piece. When my lack of experience and words of condolence fail, God’s love is all I can offer. If you are hurting, I believe that He will carry you. Always.

Choose Joy!

I painted this a couple of months ago, but didn’t know what text to put on it. I finally came up with something though! I feel like joy is definitely a choice. You can look at situations and either cry or laugh. Choosing joy may not be the easiest, but it’s the best choice in the long run.

The stars shine for us

the stars shine for us, mixed media painting

I just finished this painting today and I really love how it turned out! I can’t quite capture it correctly with my camera, but there are parts that are all black, parts that have blue over black, blue mixed with black, and blue over white… I love how layering and mixing colors give different effects! The more I paint, the more I realize how important it is to see art in person. You just can’t get all the nuances of color and texture with a photo on the internet.

If you are in the Blacksburg, Virginia area on October 2nd you should come out to Dwelling Place and see my work! The show starts at 6:30 pm and there will be some light refreshments provided. It’s a great chance to see my paintings in person, ask me any questions you might have, and maybe purchase an original painting for yourself or someone you love (aka: early Christmas shopping!). There will be some special one-night-only deals as well. Hope to see you there!
