Some of you may have noticed that the name of my Etsy shop has changed. Instead of 4mdesigns it’s now messyheart. 4mdesigns came from my old business name, but since I’m no longer doing business under that name I figured it was time for a change.

So, why messyheart?

Many times, the more messy I get with a painting, the more scared I am that it won’t turn out. Sometimes it doesn’t turn out, but most of the time I’m pleasantly surprised by the final product. Pushing myself to get past that fear of failure has been so freeing for me. I think this can have an application in our hearts. Getting messy with love involves a lot of risk. Opening my heart to others can be really intimidating. Making the choice to love people even when that love may not be returned or even acknowledged is a scary thing. But when you push past the fear and do it anyways, amazing things can happen. I feel the same way about what I do as an artist. When I put paint on a canvas it’s like I’m sharing a part of my heart with the people who view it. Sometimes it connects with the viewer and sometimes it’s totally misunderstood. That’s why I say it’s messy! And that’s why I can’t stop splattering around love like it’s wet paint. Because when it does connect and it touches their heart, then it’s sooo worth it.

And I love that the word “heart” has “art” in it, because art does come from the heart! :)
